Why Visit Wadi Shawka Park

• The core attraction of Wadi Shawka Park is the Shawka Dam.  It is considered the largest dam in the UAE.  It attracts wildlife during the winter months.
• Surrounding the dam, there are picnic spots. There are shaded sitting areas where you can sit and relax. Children can play in the playground. Visitors enjoy a barbecue in the barbecue area. 
• Hikers find this place very exciting. The 10 km hiking trail around the dam provides scenic views and opportunities to explore the diverse terrain. 
• Behind the dam, there is the highest peak of Jebel Jais mountain. It rises to an elevation of 1,934 meters. You can climb to the top using 650 stairs.

How To Get There

• By Car or Taxi: Let’s suppose you are going from Dubai or Sharjah. Take Emirates Road or Sharjah-Kalba Road towards Ras Al Khaimah. Drive through the village of Shawka and follow the signs to Wadi Shawka Dam. 
Residents of Ras al Khaimah have to take the Al Manama-Ras Al Khaimah Road. 

Tips For Visitors

• Bring enough snacks and water for hiking. 
• During peak tourist season, the place can become very congested. You may find it very difficult to find a place for car parking. 
• For tenting, you must bring strong tent pegs to save your tent from strong winds. Bring mosquito repellent cream.
• There are no bins around the area. So bring big trash bags. 
• Mobile network reception is very low there.
