Kalba Bird of Prey Centre is a unique zoo located in Sharjah. It exhibits predatory birds. At this distinctive zoo, you can see the meticulous hunting skills of falcons, eagles and vultures. It’s a very good place to explore the UAE’s wildlife.

Why Visit There

• Kalba Bird of Prey Centre holds daily outdoor demonstrations. Falcons, eagles, vultures, owls and buzzards highlight their hunting prowess, flight control, and raw power. All actions are narrated by professional bird handlers.
• Visitors can come face-to-face with many exotic and endangered birds. Barn owls, Shaheen eagles, short-toed snake eagles, greater spotted eagles, and lappet‑faced vultures live there. Birds live there in a simulated environment similar to their natural habitat. The centre has successfully bred seven endangered Egyptian vultures.
• The centre arranges guided educational tours for school groups. There is another interactive program named ‘Journey to Discovery’ suitable for all age groups.
• The centre neighbours Al Ghayl Fort. It’s a petting zoo for younger children. The vibrant mangroves of Khor Kalba are also nearby.

Best Time To Visit

Raptors are typically more active in cooler conditions. So, flight demonstrations and feeding behaviours are more dynamic in the winter.

How To Get There

• By Car/Taxi: From Sharjah or Dubai, take the Sharjah–Kalba Road to go to the centre.
• By Bus: From Sharjah, you can take the SRTA bus 616 from Al Jubail Bus Terminal 4. From Dubai, you have to take a bus to Sharjah first. Then take the 616 bus.

Tips For Visitors

• Bring food and water. There is no place nearby where you can buy these.
• The bird shows may seem a bit longer for toddlers.
• Don’t use flash when you take pictures of the birds.
• Do not tap on enclosures. Refrain from making loud noises.
• Keep a respectful distance unless a handler allows close interaction.
• There are very limited shaded areas. So, apply sunscreen. Wear breathable clothes.
